Book Selection and Reconsideration

Book Selection and Reconsideration

Library books have gotten a lot of attention recently. People from outside of your district are looking over your library collection with a fine-tooth comb. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission sets the standards for school libraries, and courts issue opinions about students’ right to read.

How do the standards and court cases apply to the reconsideration grievance you may have (or anticipate receiving)? Learn about students’ right to read, a corollary of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. How do books get into a library, who can challenge books, and what do courts say is permissible?

Presenter Dr. Carol Simpson is an attorney, and has been a librarian, library administrator, and library educator.

This is a recorded webinar. The recording and materials will be sent after purchase.
