Texas Open Meetings Act

Purpose: Overview of the Texas Open Meetings Act, recent court decisions, and Attorney General opinions with emphasis on what to do before, during, and after a Board meeting.

  • How to Prepare an Agenda and Post Notice
  • How to Efficiently Organize Meetings by using Robert's Rules of Order
  • When to Have a Closed Meeting
  • Procedures for Open and Closed Meetings

Note: Elected and appointed public officials are required by state statute to receive training in Texas open government laws. This session was developed in compliance with this law. Eichelbaum Wardell is a certified provider of open government training by the Office of the Attorney General and the Texas Education Agency.

First year board members are required to complete this training within 90 days of election or appointment.

Continuing Education Credit

Eichelbaum Wardell is a certified provider of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements through the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). The firm is also a registered provider of Continuing Education credits for School Board Members through the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and business officers through the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO).
